National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP)
August 26, 2013: Changes with the delivery of NAIP Products
As part of the National Geospatial Program's plan for delivering data from a public Internet cloud provider by the end of 2014, The National Map Viewer is offering staged products for faster and more efficient downloads. As part of this data staging effort, USGS transitioned delivery of National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) products from a dynamic, uncompressed image product previously offered in various formats, such as GeoTIFF, IMG, JPEG, or JPEG 2000, to only a JPEG 2000 (.jp2), 10:1 compressed product for staged download in 3.75x3.75 degree (quarter quadrangle) tiles.
All NAIP tiles from The National Map Viewer are available only as JPEG 2000, 10:1 compressed products. The original uncompressed imagery is available through the United States Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency (http://www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA/apfoapp?area=home&subject=prog&topic=nai-or).
To help with the transition, we provide downloadable file conversion scripts to assist users that need raster data in other formats. These scripts require either Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL) or Esri ArcGIS software for raster data file conversions. The documentation is in HTML and is under the 'How_To' folder.
