The following are descriptions of the proposed tracks for the GIS Workshop and The National Map Users Conference.
The agenda for both events will be based on accepted abstracts.
GIS Workshops Tracks
GIS Workshop presentations can be a seminar or a hands-on activity to educate the audience about a GIS application, technique, or concept.
- Analysis and Modeling with GIS - applications or techniques related to spatial analysis and simulations - Examples include: surface and volumetric modeling software, navigations tools, geoprocessing, automation and scripting, re/post processing to external models, and internal GIS models
- Cartographic Design, Output, and Publication - applications or techniques related to visualization and map making - Examples include: generalization techniques, cartographic tools, integration with publishing tools, review and publication of geospatial products and services, map/atlas production
- Data Integration - applications or techniques related to facilitating the combination of data residing in different sources and providing users with a unified view of these data
- Data Management Concepts - applications or techniques related to the effective design, storage, and use of information - Examples include: personal and enterprise database management and creation, multiuser database environments, digital data archiving, data recovery, metadata, case studies of best practice
- Elevation Data Interpretation - applications or techniques related to elevation data processing and tools - Examples include: LiDAR concepts, using NED, terrestrial LiDAR

The National Map Users Conference Tracks
- USGS Science Strategy and The National Map - research addressing the USGS Science Strategy using The National Map as the geographic base, source data, platform, and/or integration mechanism to support the science. The major cited in the USGS Science Strategy report are:
- Data Themes of The National Map - acquisition, processing, quality assurance, maintenance strategy, distribution/dissemination/access capabilities, and research about one or more of the eight data themes: orthoimagery; elevation; geographic names; hydrography; boundaries; transportation; structures; and land cover, including status and future directions
- Applications of The National Map - existing and future scientific and modeling applications using one or more of the eight data themes: orthoimagery; elevation; geographic names; hydrography; boundaries; transportation; structures; and land cover
- Partnerships of The National Map - USGS liaison and other activities for The National Map data generation, stewardship, and processing with local, state, Federal, tribal, non-profits including volunteers, and private partners
- Services of The National Map - existing and future map, feature, coverage, viewer, and download services of The National Map to aid science and the general public
- Other Topics for The National Map Users Conference:
- relations of The National Map to other datasets and platforms, such as Google, Bing,Open Street Map, ESRI,
- USGS science initiatives,
- existing or evolving technology developments affecting raster, vector, or metadata data acquisition, editing, maintenance, stewardship, analysis, mapping or other use, processing, management, and archiving
