GIS Workshops Tracks

GIS Workshop presentations can be a seminar or a hands-on activity to educate the audience about a GIS application, technique, or concept.

  • Analysis and Modeling with GIS - applications or techniques related to spatial analysis and simulations - Examples include: surface and volumetric modeling software, navigations tools, geoprocessing, automation and scripting, re/post processing to external models, and internal GIS models
  • Cartographic Design, Output, and Publication - applications or techniques related to visualization and map making - Examples include: generalization techniques, cartographic tools, integration with publishing tools, review and publication of geospatial products and services, map/atlas production
  • Data Integration - applications or techniques related to facilitating the combination of data residing in different sources and providing users with a unified view of these data
  • Data Management Concepts - applications or techniques related to the effective design, storage, and use of information - Examples include: personal and enterprise database management and creation, multiuser database environments, digital data archiving, data recovery, metadata, case studies of best practice

  • Elevation Data Interpretation - applications or techniques related to elevation data processing and tools - Examples include: LiDAR concepts, using NED, terrestrial LiDAR
  • Hydrography Applications - applications or techniques related to hydrograhy data processing and tools - Examples include: watershed modeling, using NWIS data, groundwater investigations, NHD stewardship
  • Image Processing and Interpretation - applications or techniques related to image processing software and concepts - Examples include: using Landsat, acquisition of remotely sensed data (contract to desktop), hyperspectral image analysis
  • Mobile GIS - applications or techniques related mobile GIS software and data - Examples include: mobile data collection, new applications

  • Online GIS and Web Services - applications or techniques related to accessing and serving GIS data and services online - Examples include: cloud computing, GIS portals, web APIís, Internet Mapping, USGS Map Store
  • System Design and Security with GIS - applications, techniques, and concepts related to the Information Technology interface with GIS - Examples include: system design, IT/GIS collaboration opportunities, IT security (GIS systems including access privileges and security requirements)
  • Using The National Map and other USGS Data - applications or techniques related to using USGS geospatial products - Examples include: working with GeoPDF, historical TOPO maps, TNM Viewer Application, using Landsat, using National Geologic Database, National Veg Mapping, National Atlas, Reading and using USNG, Seamless Server
