The National Map Viewer

The National Map Viewer uses a catalog to manage information about The National Map data inventories of the USGS and our partners. It accesses Web map services, which are based on open standards (see Open GIS Consortium (OGC) Web site), that meet user-defined criteria for an area of interest, scale factor or zoom, and theme. These data are integrated automatically from multiple Web map services to create your custom map display. The catalog facilitates the addition, update, and maintenance of a large number of datasets. All data from partners are available through this viewer. Data are served from a distributed network of USGS and partner Web map services.

The National Map Viewer supports page-size Adobe® PDF map printing. The viewer also supports the downloading of vector (line-based) and raster (image-based) data where available. Vector data are downloaded directly through the viewer. Requests for raster downloads (USGS and national datasets) are directed through the Seamless Data Distribution System and take an additional step. Currently, no partner raster data are available for download.
