3DEP Product News

Here's the latest news...

Maps showing recent additions of light detection and ranging (lidar) point clouds and 5-meter DEMs are now available on the Product Availability page.

The National Map now offers a broader suite of elevation products as part of the 3D Elevation Program. New product offerings include:

In addition to the new products the USGS continues to maintain three seamless standard DEMs of The National Map – the 1/3, 1, and 2 arc-second DEMs historically referred to as the National Elevation Dataset (NED). The NED branding is being retired, and beginning in 2015 these seamless layers are now being offered as part of the 3DEP product suite.

As of January 2015 the 1/9 arc-second DEM layer is no longer being updated; however, it continues to be available and until replaced by quality level 2 or better 3DEP data it remains the highest resolution available for about 1/4 of the conterminous U.S.

A point query service is available as well as a bulk point query service in beta release

All 3DEP products are available, free of charge and without use restrictions, through the following platforms:

The National Map Download Client allows the user to search by date range and view the results in the map. Select the product to search, then go to Advanced Search Options. Next, check the box next to Date Range. Select the Publication Date option under Data Type, then enter the start and end dates for the desired search range. Once the results are returned, the user has the option to display footprints and/or thumbnails for the entire list of products or for individual items in the list. Please be aware that when multiple pages of results are returned, then each page must be selected to view the corresponding footprints or thumbnails on the map.
